Sunnyside is one of Houston's oldest Black communities, first platted in 1912.
- Sunnyside Place, the oldest part, began in 1912 when H. H. Holmes platted what was then rural land.
- In 1915 it became the first addition south of the City of Houston developed and offered exclusively for Black residents, during the era of "restricted communities."
- Brookhaven was platted in 1943, and Sunnyside Court began as a series of small subdivisions in the 1940s and 1950s.
- The Super Neighborhood lies south of Loop 610, with Highway 288 on the west and Sims Bayou on the south, and spans more than one ZIP code, including 77033 and 77051.
Selling a house in Sunnyside
Sunnyside is inside the City of Houston, in Harris County. Houston has no zoning ordinance, so land use on most streets is governed by private deed restrictions. Before you sell, it helps to know what your subdivision's restrictions say; a title company can search them in Harris County Clerk records. Harris County property is appraised by the Harris Central Appraisal District (HCAD), which sets the value your property tax bill is based on.
