After July the penalty stays at 12% and interest keeps growing by 1% a month. This matches the schedule county tax offices publish. Your tax statement shows the exact payoff, and quarterly or half-payment plans, rollback elections and changed exemptions can alter it.

If you are thinking about selling

Delinquent property taxes are normally paid from the sale proceeds at closing, so the house can change hands with a clear title. Ask a title company for a payoff figure so you know what the sale has to cover. Our guide to Texas back taxes explains the rules in more detail.
