Behind on Payments
Build the monthly budget your servicer will ask for.
List your income and your monthly costs. You will see what is left over, where the money goes, and how long a past-due amount would take to cover.
Your numbers are only the start
Fill in the form to see your results here. When you are ready, send us the address and we will turn the estimate into a real offer or a plain-English plan, at no cost.
How to use the worksheet
Use take-home pay for income and your real monthly costs for the rest. If a cost changes through the year, use the monthly average. The result shows whether you have money left over or fall short, and which costs are largest.
Why servicers ask for a budget
A budget helps a servicer see whether a repayment plan is realistic or whether a loan change is needed. Many servicers have their own form, so treat this as a worksheet to fill that form from.
If you come up short
A monthly shortfall is a fact to bring to your servicer and a HUD-approved housing counselor, along with your income documents. Our options quiz shows what to ask about.
Questions about this tool
Is my budget saved?
No. The numbers stay on this page and are not sent anywhere unless you choose to contact us.
Should I use gross or take-home pay?
This worksheet uses take-home pay, because it measures what you can actually spend. Servicers often ask for gross income as well.
What if my income changes each month?
Use an average of recent months and say so when you talk to your servicer.

These tools give general estimates from the numbers you enter. They do not replace advice from a Texas attorney, a CPA or a licensed lender. Captain Saves A Home buys houses, so we have an interest in a sale, and we will tell you honestly when another option fits better.
